Associate Professor, Technology Education
Research interests relate to biotechnology problem-based learning, the intersections of practice among STEM education areas, and instructional design and technology. Teaching assignments include graduate courses in Technology Education and Integrative STEM Education.

Professor, Technology Education
Research interests include developing content standards for technological literacy as well as student assessment, professional development, and program standards. Other research interests include educating the public about what technology is and how it differs from science.
B.S., Industrial Arts Education, VPI; M.S., Industrial Arts Education, Appalachian State University; Ph.D., The Ohio State University. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Dr. Dugger taught electronics in Martinsville, Virginia schools from 1959-1967. He was a graduate research assistant at Ohio State from 1967 to 1970. Dugger was an assistant professor of industrial arts at Western Kentucky University from 1970-1972. In 1972, Dugger came to Virginia Tech as Program Area Leader for Industrial Arts Education (replacing Joe Schad). He has served as an officer in many associations at the state, regional, national, and international levels. In 1996, he retired from Virginia Tech . Currently, he serves as the Director of the International Technology Education Association’s Technology for All Americans Project which has produced Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology and Advancing Technological Literacy: Student Assessment, Professional Development, and Program Standards.

Dr. Allen Bame

Special interests include curriculum development for secondary school technology education, drafting and CAD, the design process, materials and processes, technology education facility planning and the English Design & Technology program.
B. S., Industrial Arts Education, VPI; M. S., Industrial Arts Education, Kent State University; Ed. D., Industrial Arts Education, North Carolina State University. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech Dr. Bame taught for ten years in public schools in Virginia and Ohio and was a graduate teaching assistant and Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University. Current responsibilities include teaching undergraduate drafting and CAD, materials and processes, transportation, curriculum materials and introduction to technology education. Graduate teaching includes curriculum development and middle and high school curriculum in Virginia. Dr. Bame coordinates the technology education student teaching program. He also works regularly with colleagues in England developing ways to incorporate the English Design & Technology program into American schools.

Areas of special interest include integration of technology with other academic areas, computer graphic simulation, and automation. Teaching assignment includes materials and processes, manufacturing, construction, advanced production problems, and computer control.

Six years teaching experience at the secondary level, three years experience in the building materials business, and over 20 years in higher education at Virginia Tech, Miami University of Ohio, and Montana State University.
