Responsibilities: The Department of Industry and Technology announces an opening for a tenure-track position available January 8, 2001. This assignment will include teaching courses in the following areas: communication, design, technology systems, graduate education, and other departmental service courses as needed. Research and scholarly productivity activities (e.g., publications, presentations, curriculum development, grant proposal writing, etc.) in the specialty area or related field are expected.
Review of the applications will begin December 1, 2000 and continue until the position is filled.

Teach undergraduate courses in printing, pre-press, and imaging processes with emphasis on management and production.

Qualifications:

Competence in basic and advanced printing and imaging procedures with in-depth technical expertise in computer-aided publishing and digital imaging technologies, color reproduction, quality control, production technologies and systems operation including offset lithography, flexography, screen process and gravure.
A background in computer networking, image transmission, programming languages, and digital photography is also desirable.
Interest and ability in curriculum development for a management-oriented curriculum.
Candidates must legally eligible to work in the United States by August 15, 2001.

Graphic Communication Technologies (Printing)

Position: Instructor
Salary: Salary is based upon education and experience. For example, a Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience would gross an approximate beginning salary of $47,923 for 9 1/2 months. A Master's degree and five years of related experience would gross an approximate beginning salary of $51, 565.
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Associate Dean, business and Graphic Arts, to teach courses in the Graphic Communication Technologies Program to include, but not limited to, introduction to computers and the entire process of graphic communication technologies, desktop publishing and prepress production classes, and related support classes.
Qualifications:
1. Must have at least seven (7) years of full time work experience in the printing industry combined with two (2) years of additional education and training in the area; or a Bachelor's Degree in a related area plus two years of full time work experience in the printing industry. A Bachelor's Degree is required; therefore, candidates without a degree must pursue a professional growth plan to complete a Bachelor's Degree.
2. Must have expertise of current printing methods and industry standards in all phases of printing production based on recent work experience.
3. Must have knowledge in prepress production methods currently used in the printing industry including desktop publishing programs such as QuarkXPress, PhotoShop and Illustrator as well as experience preflighting and outputting digital files.
4. Must have knowledge inn large press, small duplicators, flexographic and finishing production methods currently used in the printing industry.
5. Teaching experience in graphic communication technologies is preferred.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students through oral and written means.
7. Must be able to relate successfully with students, faculty and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, social and education backgrounds.

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor
The Department of Paper and Printing Science and Engineering invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level effective August 2000. Applicants are required to have an earned Ph.D. in science or engineering and are expected to develop and conduct a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in printing and imaging.
The position requires experience and accomplishment in digital imaging and prepress along with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, a Physical Science or a related discipline. Experience and practical knowledge of mechanical and chemical processes involved in image carrying are strongly desired.
Candidates for this position are expected to be dedicated teachers active in undergraduate and graduate instruction in printing and imaging. Additional duties include development of course work and curricula, directing student research and activities, recruiting, involvement in technical organizations, and committee/departmental governance activities. Industrial experience is highly desired.
The Department of Paper and Printing Science and Engineering offers BS degrees in Paper Science and Engineering, Printing Management and Marketing and Chemical Engineering and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Paper and Imaging Science and Engineering. More than 300 full-time students are enrolled in the department's curricula. Eleven faculty and twelve staff members service the needs of students and support research, laboratories and pilot plant operations. Western Michigan University is a Carnegie Doctoral I Institution, the only one of its kind in the state, and one of the state's five graduate-intensive universities. The University consists of seven degree-granting Colleges, a Graduate college and an Honors College, and has about 800 faculty members. Enrollment is approximately 28,000 students, with about 25 percent at the graduate level. Kalamazoo, the educational and cultural center of Southwestern Michigan, is the home of Western Michigan University and is midway between Chicago and Detroit.
Rank and salary for the position will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and background. Faculty may have the opportunity to teach during either of the two month Spring or Summer session for which they may receive up to an additional 22% of their academic base salary. General information: Diablo Valley College is a large suburban community college, approximately 25 miles east of San Francisco in Contra Costa County. Description of position: Diablo Valley College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track instructor in Multimedia to begin August 2000. The successful candidate will teach the full range of multimedia courses including digital imaging, web design, motion graphics, interactivity and authoring, or 3D animation, and the necessary experience to assist in the supervision of the department's cross-platform computer lab.
Duties and responsibilities: In addition to contractual duties which for this position will include 18 hours per week of direct classroom instruction (7 hours lecture, 11 hours lab), all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, in their departmental activities and in the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Position: Full-time, academic, one year, renewable faculty position.
