Graduate Program



Since its founding in 1872, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, popularly known as Virginia Tech, has grown to become the state's largest university. With about 200 degree programs and $131 million in research projects, Virginia Tech has become the state's leading research institution.

Approximately 5,500 graduate and 17,500 undergraduate students comprise the Virginia Tech community. The University is organized into eight colleges, a graduate school, and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Its strikingly beautiful campus is in the town of Blacksburg, which is located on a plateau between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains in southwest Virginia. It's a gorgeous setting with a climate conducive to year-round outdoor recreational activities.

Technology Education at Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech's Technology Education program was established in 1947. During its beginning years, the program concentrated on producing high quality undergraduates. In 1972, the graduate program was organized, and today is recognized as one of the leading graduate programs in technology education in the United States, as well as internationally.

Since formation, more than 150 graduate degrees have been awarded to technology education professionals at Virginia Tech. These graduates are employed in higher education, administration, public secondary education, and business/industry positions. The graduate program is designed to help students advance their ability in leadership. They develop research, problem solving, and critical thinking skills, and develop both personally and professionally. The faculty in technology education is nationally and internationally recognized for their leadership and research in technology education.

The Technology Education program at Virginia Tech offers the following graduate degrees : Master of Science (M.S.), Education Specialist (Ed.S.), Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Graduate Teaching Assistantships and Graduate Research Assistantships are available each year in Technology Education for qualified full-time graduate students on a competitive basis. Graduate Assistants receive full tuition waivers for two semesters each year.
