Assistantships




The Technology Education Program at Virginia Tech has openings for Graduate Teaching (GTA) and Graduate Research (GRA) Assistantships each year. Interested applicants may check with the following individuals for details:

Qualifications: Master's degree in technology education or closely related field preferred. Teaching experience at the middle or secondary school level is required for GTA positions, as is a commitment to a career in education. Some GRA positions may be filled by well-qualified Masters degree candidates.
 
Salary: Approximately $1150-1200 per month for nine months. Some GRA positions may be 12 month positions. All GTA positions and some GRA positions provide tuition waivers for two semesters each year. GTA positions may be renewed for a total of three years. Acceptance by the Graduate School is a condition of employment.
 
Starting Date: August 15 for GTA positions. Start date for GRA positions varies.
 
Location: Virginia Tech is a land-grant institution with a strong record of research and scholarship. It is located on a 2000 ft. plateau between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains in the southeast portion of the State. The area is noted for its clean air, natural beauty, and outdoor recreational opportunities. The university has approximately 25,000 students (about 5,000 of whom are graduate students). The town of Blacksburg has about 20,000 additional residents.

Graduate Program: The Technology Education Program at Virginia Tech offers the Master of Education, Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees with a concentration in technology education. Each degree program provides considerable flexibility relative to the career aspirations and interests of the student. Cognates (minors) are available in such areas as industrial engineering and automation, instructional technology, science/technology/society, industrial training, management, special needs, and supervision. The Technology Education faculty are extremely active professionally and take pride in the collegial atmosphere they generate by involving graduate students in a wide range of professional, service, and social activities.
