This course focuses principally on manufacturing practices using the enterprises approach. Students study manufacturing with an emphasis on mass production. Through the simulation of corporate organization, the concepts of product development, market analysis, production planning, production tooling, packaging, and management are taught. Approaches to teaching manufacturing are analyzed. Through lecture and lab experiences, students will:

  1. Be familiarized with manufacturing practices through the enterprise method.
  2. Be familiarized with the economic and management principles of manufacturing.
  3. Have a model for teach manufacturing in the public schools.
  4. Be provided with problem-solving opportunities using the team approach
Besides the creating and running of an enterprise, other activities/lessons include:
  • Logotype presentation
  • Product proposal presentation
  • Production planning
  • Production tooling problems
  • Profit/loss statement and break-even chart
  • Quality control
  • Stock investment activity
  • Time study
